i woke up this morning at darryl and isa's place and headed to the paramount theater for movie church. its actually called the meeting place, but seeing as it all happens inside the paramount movie theater, and the sermon is shown on a movie screen, its movie church to me.

i was actually very excited to go to movie church today. go figure, me excited for church! but its not like your traditional church. it definitely lives up to its slogan "church for people who aren't into church". i went for the first time last year with my sister, just before i left for bc. i was impressed by their non-religious approach to spirituality.

the sermons are recorded a week before at the main church in oakville, then it is shown on movie screens throughout the gta the following sunday.

this sunday's sermon was called organics: worshiping the creator by saving creation. a very appropriate subject of discussion, seeing as i just came back from a place where divine creation is majestically all around you to worship and praise.

the sermon incorporated some wisdom from the conscious canadian teacher david suzuki.

the david suzuki nature challenge

1. Reduce home energy use by 10%
2. Choose an energy-efficient home & appliances
3. Don't use pesticides
4. Eat meat-free meals one day a week
5. Buy locally grown and produced food
6. Choose a fuel-efficient vehicle
7. Walk, bike, carpool or take transit
8. Choose a home close to work or school
9. Support alternative transportation
10. Learn more and share with others

the sermon reminded me of the church i was at just two weeks before with anke. church is any place where people worship and praise divine creation. a sin is any conscious act that fucks with creation.

after church, my friend nick picked me up and we headed to the little portugal area of the city for what was supposed to be a randnorm street surfer party. instead we found a packed neighbourhood with people celebrating the portugal world cup game.

i love this city during the world cup. there is no other place in the world that is as concentrated and diverse in its culture as toronto...and people take this game of futbol very fukkin seriously.

so nick and i headed towards cherry beach for the promise sunday afternoon sound system. this is perhaps the best free weekly event in the entire world. over 250 people relaxing by the water of lake ontario, drinkin, smoking, tossing frisbees, relaxing, and listening to live bands and djs spin music for free...and the best people to celebrate with.

the jimmy swift band, hailing from halifax, played a live set at the beach. holy shit these guys rawk!

darryl and isa showed up with their daughter valentina. man this kid is all kinds of cuteness...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

its been a weekend of reunions for me, and i was beyond stoked to run into so many friendly faces and friends that i haven't seen since i left. its events like these that remind me how blessed i am, and how incredible this city is.

angela!

read the reviews on tribe here.

its good to be back home, dancing among friends outside for free. gawd i've missed this place and these people. i just skipped the brown and slushy winter of the city and rode powder instead.

the music was still going after the sun went down. we danced until 11pm when everything shut down.

i hitched a ride with my friend baby g and her partner mark. we stopped off at amatos pizza for a snack (thank you mark) before they dropped me off at the subway. the life of a normad. the pack looks good on ya baby g!

daam it feels good to be back! i missed this place.
