the day of reckoning is upon us! repent! repent! for the day that bears the mark of the devil will bring you nothing but ill repute! for me, it also brought along with it an incredible reconnection with an old friend.

last night i stayed with my good friend fred. fred grew up in markham and lived down the street from my very good friend greg. i spent a lot of time with fred growing up. he went to a different school than greg and i did, more specificallly brother andre, the catholic school. that didn't stop us from hanging out together, and gettin into trouble together.

fred has always had an addiktion to cars, and was known for his lime green punchbuggy.

fred moved to calgary a few years ago. i was glad to see him on my last trip to calgary.

i stayed at fred's place last night after eating dinner at the ship and anchor. fred lives in a large 5 bedroom house in calgary, by himself! ok, maybe not by himself...he's got a cute cat and five, count em, FIVE punchbuggies! this boy loves his veedub bugs!

fred even races his custom lime green bug

seeing a green punchbuggy on a racetrack must be a beautiful site. almost as beautiful as the old skewl snowboard fred also had in his garage!

graffix don't get more raw than that. schweet!

fred works at west jet, so he dropped me off at my friend sarah's place this morning on his way to work. i passed out on sarah's sofa and waited for her to wake up...does anyone lock their doors in canada? ;)

i ran into kristin and one of her friends downtown for lunch.

i ran into sarah again and we walked around downtown calgary for a bit, catchin up and seein the sites.

sarah dropped me off at kristin's work and i headed to kristin's dad's place for dinner. it was the best meal i had eaten since i left toronto for the west: big phat steaks, shrimps, potatoes, beer. it was heaven. cause really, who can afford steak?

it was also good to see kristin's family again.

after dinner, we went to watch kristin's brothers and sister play soccer. kids in little soccer uniforms that are too big for them is hilarious.

they have wierd times for church in calgary

next stop was paula and steph's place to talk about burning man. i can't wait to be back on the playa again. and the view of calgary fom paula and steph's place is pretty schweet!

after our burning man meeting, we met up with fred at a bar called morgan's to see an eighties glam rock cover band named brokent toyz. oh man, these guys are the real fukkin deal! big hair, skin tight pants, bandanas around the ankle.

and they played all of the songs i grew up listening to. poison, ac/dc. whitesnake, motley crue, holy shit it was awesome!

Cause baby well be
At the drive-in
In the old mans ford
Behind the bushes
Till Im screamin for more
Down the basement
Lock the cellar door
And baby
Talk dirty to me

i was a huge poison fan in the eighties!

i lived in the shadow of my brother, who to this day is still a fukkin metal head. i listened to all the music he listened to, so i knew all of the lyrics to all of the songs that broken toyz played. man, rockin out to "the final countdown" was all kinds of awesome!

kristin was tired and is also not the biggest fan of eghties big hair music, so she left early. after an incredible evening of rockin out to eighties rock with fred, he drove me back to kristin's place only to find out that i was locked out. so i spent the night at fred's again.

being in the presence of a friend that i've known for almost 20years is a feeling that all the money in the world can't buy.

thanks fred, you fukkin rawk dude! what a totally radical way to spend 6/6/6!!!

shout! shout! shout! shout at the devil!

last night we celebrated my friend sarah's birthday at a bar called the drum and monkey. i unfortunately did not bring my camera with me so no pix :( hey kristin, i know you took pix...care to send em to me?

so instead, here are some pix of the last time i was at the drum and monkey with sarah and kristin in 2003.

happy birthday sarah! it was awesome celebrating with you.

kristin's partner dave has a pair of practice katanas, common weapons for a jedi like him (in addition to an anakin skywalker lightsaber). so after breakfast today, we headed to the beau river park for a randnorm photo shoot.

there is beauty everywhere, even in calgary

kuma! she's a pretty awesome puppy.

neil had to catch his plane back to toronto, so we said our goodbyes as we left the park.

thanks for everything neil. it was so awesome sharing nelson with you, sharing the drive through the rockies with you, and partying in calgary with you. have a safe flight home brother, and i'll see you when i get back to toronto.

more normurai pix here in my pikcha archive.

lively up yours'elf!

1:30pm-4:00pm

my memory card on my camera was corrupted, so all of the pix i took today are gone :( sorry, just w3rd5 for this blog entry...or old pikchaz.

neil and i woke up early today to some typically beautiful nelson weather. i made us some breakfast which we nibbled at while we packed up neil's rental car with our shit (read my shit).

packed up and ready to go, i stopped by jim and fiorinda's place to say godbye and randomly gift jim my 19" monitor.

next stop was the dancing bear inn to say goodbye to anke. i have so many fond memories of this dedicated german telemarker. she randomly gifted me the dvd sinners, filmed at whitewater. now i've got video evidence of how extreme this little gem of a ski resort is.

thank you anke. i love you and look forward to seeing you again at shambalha.

our final stop was at andrea's place at 324 beasley, the place where i called home for the first month i spent here in nelson. it was great to say goodbye to abilash (he's such a well behaved baby) and thank andrea in person for being such an angel. i don't know what i would have done without you andrea. thank you for being there for me. i will never forget your kindness. love and blessings to you, akkal, and abilash. a-team massif!

neil and i headed south towards creston as we journeyed towards alberta. creston is where kokanee beer is brewed, which is humourous because kokanee glacier national park is 20minutes north of nelson, not in creston. meh, like people really care about the details ;)

we ate at a small buffet in creston and continued our journey to the rocky mountains. seeing the change in mountains from the kutenais to the rockies is fascinating. from tree covered mountains to sheer rock face, the rockies are beyond majestic. they remind you how old and ancient they are, they humble you.

driving through banff national park with the rocky mountains surrounding us was nothing less than incredible. we saw mountain goats, both the horned and hairy kinds, elk, and deer. never know what animal might be crossing your path on the highway.

we made a quick stop in banff for some dinner and sightseeing. whoah, its so different to be in a place where tourism and spending money is beating you down every turn you make. meh, i guess its not that wierd to me coming from toronto, i've just spent the last six months in a different environment.

there is a billboard outside of nelson that has no advertisement on it because the people of nelson would boycott any business that would place an ad there. now there is a chicken wire fence around the billboard because the townspeople, on two occassions, took hacksaws and chainsaw to the billboard and cut it down. people in nelson don't like being told what to do, or what to buy.

as we walked down the main street in banff, i was stopped by a familiar face. a guy i know from nelson named cory was standing on the street corner. never know who you might run into, even in another town.

neil and i enjoyed a delicious sushi dinner at one of the many japanese restaurants in banff (holy shit, i've never seen so many japanese restaurants or japanese tourists in one place before). then we made the 90minute drive to calgary as the sun set behind the majestik rocky mountains of alberta.

we arrived at my friend kristin's place in the heart of calgary's northwest suburbs. tired and exhausted from a long journey, neil and i passed out.

thank you for getting us to calgary safely neil. it was so good to reconnect with you. thank you for providing a place for us to stay kristin. its good to see you again.

love and blessings
